Greetings from President Terry Daley and members of the Rotary Club of Rockhampton North.

Our thoughts and prayers are with you all as the City of New York approaches the first anniversary of the infamous 11th September tragedy.  Our rotary club meets on a Wednesday Evening and so on Wednesday 11th September 2002 we will remember you and drink a special International toast to the Rotary Club of New York on that evening.

We wish you every success in your endeavours

Yours in Rotary

President Helen announced at our last meeting that generous Rotarians around the world have contributed more than $1.4 million to our World Trade Center Disaster Relief Fund. I want to thank them all and I also want to thank  www.historyofrotary.org  for its generous support in helping the New York Rotary Club with the fundraising.

At our last meeting, our World Trade Center Disaster Relief Fund made its first grant disbursements.

Werner Kobelt, Chairman of the New York Rotary Foundation, presented four checks totaling $227,500 to the following organizations for their support of victims of the World Trade Center attack:

1. Fraternite Notre Dame - $20,000 for their outstanding effort of feeding all those involved in recovery efforts at Ground Zero.

2. Seedco - $100,000 for their support of lower Manhattan small retailers and manufacturers. Seedco has given $7 million in grants and loans since September 11th.

3. The Children's Health Fund - $7,500 to purchase books on trauma and grief for children who lost parents on September 11th.

4. Safe Horizon - $100,000, the first group to hand out checks to victims without bureaucratic delays to low-income individuals and families.

You can see additional pictures from the grant disbursement on our website at www.newyorkcityrotary.org/wtc_disaster/WTC-Grant%20disbursem.%20021202.pdf. You can also read more about the disbursement on our website at www.newyorkcityrotary.org/.
