Friends:

Rossana and I want to express to all of you and your families our complete solidarity with you and our condolences for all of the victims of the tragedy which unfolded in your country yesterday. Dear Matts,

Profoundly shocked by the horrendous crime committed against humanity in New York on September 11th., The First Plenary Session of the XXX Zone 21 Institute in San José, Costa Rica, which comprised 14 countries from Mexico to the Northern part of South America; approved unanimously a Resolution sent to the Governors of New York, New Jersey and Washington Districts through our President Richard King. It expressed our total repudiation of such unspeakable action, our heartfelt condolences to the families and the people of New York and Washington, our prayers for the souls of the many innocent dead during a two minutes silence, and our firm determination as Rotarians to strife more strongly for Peace and understanding in our world.

Personally, as Director of R.I., I pledge myself to work very hard with the rest of the Board to obtain these goals and to give you all the support we can.

Very sincerely yours,

Gustavo A. de Obaldía

R.I. Director

Convener XXX Institute Zone 21

Dear President, and Dear Collegues of the Board of Directors, dear RI Members Staff,

Norbert Turco and Josephine

RI Treasurer

Matts:

Many Rotarians are asking what they can do to assist. Has your club set up a fund for the families of the lost firefighters, police, emergency personnel, or for some other purpose? Is there anything else that where Rotary clubs can assist?

Thanks, and our thoughts and prayers are constantly focused on the city.

Dan Mooers

Aide to the President

(A fund has been established, with information at "Disaster Fund" at the bottom of this page)

Matts,

Someone forwarded your first-person account to me at The Rotarian
magazine. I cannot imagine what it must have been like. Perhaps you also
received this from PDG Rodney Mazinter (9350, South Africa). If not, I
forward it fyi.

Sincerely,

Dear Matts:

Thank you so much for sharing this with us. What a terrible tragedy.
Everyone it seems is affected. My sister lives just a couple of blocks away
from the WTC. Fortunately, she was evacuated and is now safe.

I am sharing your information and the many emails of support with our Web
site staff, Newsbasket editor and Public Information staff. Please feel free
to keep us updated, and we will also check your web site.

Our thoughts are with you.
