President Helen,

We have all been shocked and saddened by the tragedy that has hit your city, I am sure I speak for all decent people throughout the world when I condemn this cowardly act.

Tonight at our Rotary meeting we held a silence as a mark of respect for those innocents who lost their lives in this act of terrorism, we also toasted your club as you will no doubt be at the heart of the regeneration of your great city.

We were victims of indiscriminant bombing 5 years ago in our neighbouring city, Manchester, and we have now rebuilt the city, I am certain you will do likewise.

Our thoughts are with you.

Yours in Rotary

Dear Helen,
This is a time when we all need to work together. Local clubs and districts
have called me they want to help anyway they can. I will call you later so
you can tell us what you and the club need. I pray that we are able to find
more people. Things like this are not suppose to happen in the US never mind
NY.

Dear Helen & Andreas:

I can't tell you how horrified we are regarding the terrorism in New York City.  We are greatly sorrowed by this event and the senseless and tragic loss of life.  We are praying for those who might still survive and for the families of those who have apparently perished in this heinous act.  Please send our prayers to your Club members who are suffering, and especially for the family of your missing Rotarian.

As in  every other city in the United States, citizens of the Grand Rapids have lined up to give blood, so many that they had to be turned away. Monetary assistance is also being funneled through our local American Red Cross.

Please know that we are thinking of you at all times, and please do not hesitate to let us know how we can help out.

Sincerely,

The Rotary Club of Grand Rapids

Helen Cook, Executive Administrator

Dear President Helen and Fellow Rotarians:

On behalf of all the members (560) of Area 4 in District 5020 (Western Washington and Vancouver Island) I would like to extend our sincere condolences and concern regarding the tragic events of Tuesday, September 11th, 2001 which occurred in New York, Washington and Pittsburgh. Clubs in this Area are holding a moment of silence at the start of their Rotary meeting this week and please be assured our thoughts and prayers are with all of you, and particularly with the families and friends of any Rotarians who may have been lost.

Yours in Rotary,

Joan Firkins

Hi...

Terry Schaeffer here. I am with the Rotary Club of Santa Paula California. The Schaeffer's wanted to make a contribution to your club. You may either use it for local relief or perhaps with the Rotary Foundation. Use your judgment.

I have your mailing address. My wife, Mary, and I will be mailing a check for $1,000.00 in Thursday's mail. You should receive it over the weekend. We are scheduled to give blood on Monday. That was the earliest we could get in for an appointment, so many people wanting to give blood following your disaster. We in California care about you New Yorkers too!

We were impressed with New Yorkers courage, common sense, helpfulness, and kindness to each other. We have never been to New York City, our nephew is a botanist at your arboretum, but we will definitely be coming for a visit. I tell my sons that if they are away from home and in a tight pinch to look up a rotarian.

Good luck and we will look for other small ways to help.

Warm regards,

Terry & Mary Schaeffer

Having just left my Rotary meeting (of which I have been a member for 2
weeks), and having 2 speakers talk to us about what happened yesterday, I
just wanted to tell you that all of us (especially the 100+ East Fresno,
California Rotarians ) are sending our strongest prayers for comfort and
understanding, peace and renewal. I feel that your city and the others took
the brunt of this terrorist anger for the whole of America. I can't begin to
understand the war-like destruction or pain or suffering or aftermath, but
know that I feel very helpless in  Fresno, California - all I can do is send
my urgent prayers to God for the ability for us all to live on this planet in
peace (although I am beginning to think it is against basic human nature to
do so).

Can we in East Fresno Rotary do anything for you ??  Again, I feel so
helpless.  Having been involved in Youth Exchange for the past 3 years, prior
to my Rotary involvement, I have received many emails of support of our
country and as fellow Rotarians.  But, again, I have not personally felt the
true emotional strain and physical pain that must be so heavy in all of your
hearts.

Respond if/when you are able, and please let us know if there is anything we
can do to lend our support.

To our Rotarian Family in New York City,

I write this not knowing if you will even get it in time to be of any
assistance, but I must ask  what, if anything, can we here do, besides
pray, to help you?
