Greetings Matts,

We have followed with much interest and appreciation the development of the Rotaryclubhistory site and congratulate you on its all embracing nature, especially your efforts to provide such comprehensive and sensitive coverage of the tragedy of 11 September.

My Club has endeavoured to encourage Rotarians throughout District 9640 to visit your site at regular intervals and in this regard I have add the following page to the Parkwood Rotary Club site:

We will always remember those events in New York and Washington and the outpouring of worldwide sympathy to the families of the victims which was so ably reported to us by you.  At the same time you have done a marvellous job for Rotary by bringing our history to us in pictures and commentary.  Altogether you have created a site of which all Rotarians can feel extremely proud.

With best wishes,

Yours in Rotary Service,

Dear Friends in Rotary

This email comes to you from the Rotary Club of Leeming in Western Australia.  We are a relatively young club, chartered some 7 years ago in the South Metro suburb of Perth. We have just 25 members. We live in a quiet backwater of the world down under.

We are a mixed gender breakfast club and we meet at our local Golf Club.  We are greeted by kangaroos as we go to our club each Wednesday morning.

Last Wednesday, the 12th of September we met as usual.

There was an air of shock and horror as each member came through door.

Many members had been up all night watching CNN News.

The world had gone mad, we saw picture after picture of scenes that were surely out of Acropolis Now. or , irony of ironies, from the film shown 2 nights previously on local TV, Clear and Present danger by Tom Clancy.  This couldn't really be happening.

Dear Friends, we feel for you, we weep for you.

Over the last two days there have been many outpourings of grief for the US, prayer meetings, simple neighbourhood gatherings  where ordinary folk have expressed their horror, everyone is talking about this, everyone is horrified, you are not alone.

Today our Firemen met en masse in Perth for a candlelight vigil in memory of the brave men and women who lost their lives in the service of others.

On Wednesday morning , our time, which was still Tuesday night your time ( we are 12 hours ahead you) we met as usual at 7am.  Our sergeant, Michael Cockram joined me prior to the meeting and said that he felt we shouldn't have the traditional fines session and heads and tails, my reply to him was that we would not let any Hijackers interfere with our Rotary Club meeting, I hope you will understand.

Following Grace I invited Michael to say a few words about the US tragedy,

His words were simple

Our Grace talks about every race and creed, our  close of meeting statement  talks about freedom and security, on Tuesday 11th September 2001 this was violated, ladies and gentlemen, join me in a moment of silence for our American cousins.

Yours in Rotary
